Margaret Dewar

1. Describe your art space…

My space is chaotic, I would like to be organized but I don’t seem to get time to tidy it up. Most of my work is on the computer using a 3d program, Photoshop and Illustrator. When I get out the pencil, biro or felt tip pen it is usually in front of tv as this is work for my pleasure, not my income. There is no room around my computer for these pleasurable past times. Paints are rarely used as they take me too long to set up – especially oils.

2. When do you like to create? Do you have a favourite day of week or time of day?

Work starts around 9am and goes til 6pm, I am happy with that. The other fun work usually starts about 9pm and can go to the early hours in the morning, I feel I am most creative around midnight.

3. Describe your art work. What are you working on at the moment?

Work is usually illustrating houses, I have been illustrating exteriors for many years and just lately I have been brave enough to do interiors with the wrong sort of 3d program and Photoshop. I am working on a living/dining/kitchen at the moment. I have already done the outside. I think they might need a bathroom done as well. This year I have been illustrating at least one drawing in pencil, pen or biro every day. I am hoping I can make it to the end of the year, it has been a very real challenge.

4. What mediums do you like to use?

My favourite is the computer, I enjoy how things can be manipulated and it is easy to experiment the many ways of creating. After that pencil is so good to use.

5. List five favourite art tools that you couldn’t live without…

  1. Probably the first one I ever used was a pencil.
  2. My Wacom stylus and tablet is a close second.
  3. Third is a biro.
  4. Fourth is the felt tip pen.
  5. Fifth is probably a good kneadable eraser for the first tool.
